28 May Influencer Marketing: How to Leverage Influence to Grow Your Following Quickly

Although a new term in modern marketing, influencer marketing has existed since the dark ages. Chiefs had influence over their tribes, religious leaders over worshippers and now – Instagram models over millions of evangelical fans.

As with any social media marketing methods, there is conflicting information on whether influencer marketing is useful, and how to use it.

It starts by first understanding the pros and cons of the method, and whether it fits your overall growth strategy. Data, transparency and capitalizing on results is key when figuring out if influencer marketing is the right tool for your brand right now.

What is influencer marketing?

Have you ever awed at how quickly something can become a trend simply because a celebrity wore it, ate it or did it? That is because they have a strong impact (influence) over their following.
Influencer marketing is a social media marketing technique that uses people with a strong following, such as celebrities, to promote products, experiences, brands and even other people.
Sounds expensive. It used to be! But now, innovative techniques like loop giveaways are lowering the cost barrier and allowing more brands to use this powerful growth tool. Keep reading to find out how this works.

Is your brand ready for influencer marketing?

Before you implement either of two influencer marketing methods described below, there are a few things to consider:
• Is your brand strong on Instagram? Most influencers will promote you on their Instagram and that’s where appearances really matter. It’s ok if you don’t have 10K Instagram followers. The most important parts of your Instagram profile are:
o Cohesive, attractive and engaging content that speaks to your influencer’s audience.
o A bio that quickly tells your differentiator from competitors.
o A clear and quick call to action in your bio.
During the influencer’s campaign (once they post about you), you will want to post stories and posts that engage their audience and make them want to buy your product or service, if that is your strategy.
• Is your infrastructure ready to “squeeze the juice” out of the influencer campaign? You have one chance to make a great first impression. Is your website capable of handling high amounts of traffic? Is it working flawlessly to create the best experience possible for your new customers? Is your website properly integrated with email marketing software, text alerts, social media and other tools to continue marketing to the influencer’s network?

Two ways you can use influencers to grow.

There are two main ways you can implement influencer marketing:
1) Work directly with the influencer.
2) Join a loop to grow your following.

Here’s an example of a TikTok campaign we ran for a client. Prior to running this campaign, we planned out posts that would be interesting to the influencer’s audience and still represent our client well.

To better understand these two methods, watch the video at the top of this blog.
